Sweetinburgh (inspired by 'Bingie', a 1930's 'Merrythought' Bear)
Sweetinburgh is from my new line of larger bears, made using the most gorgeous dense, swirly mohair in pale teddy blonde. He is created in the traditional style of bears from the period 1914-1944, with a modern twist. Sweetinburgh has large amber and black wired glass eyes, with lace rims, slightly shaded around, plus metal and hardboard cotter joints. His nose and features, including claws, are hand embroidered. His painted paw pads are pale leather.
Sweetinburgh is heavily weighted with steel punchings in his tum, although a lead weight would have originally been used. He is stuffed with wood wool, polyfibre and mohair scraps (to replicate the waste materials used to save money). Lastly, Sweetinburgh has a secret in his tum - a tilt growler!
Sweetinburgh measures 33cms.
My bears are made from 100% mohair or viscose, with the occasional faux fur and plush thrown in!
They are 5 way cotter pin jointed, and some of my minis are string jointed. They have wired glass eyes, some of which are hand blown antique glass.
My bears etc. are generally around 11cm tall when seated and so are classed as miniature bears, although they can be quite stocky fellows!
The bears are filled with lovely, clean steel punchings
and some polyfibre stuffing.
These are collectors' bears made using materials and traditional components that make them unsuitable as children's toys. Every one arrives with a signed and dated certificate.
