Big Boy (inspired by 'Bingie', a 1930's 'Merrythought' Bear)
Big Boy (as his name suggests!) is from my new line of larger bears, made using the most amazing dense, stringy mohair in rich amber. He is created in the traditional style of bears from the period 1914-1944, with a modern twist. Big Boy has large amber and black wired glass eyes, slightly rimmed in brown, metal and card cotter joints, embroidered features and claws. His nose is authentic German black glass, to replicate glass noses sometimes used in this period. His paw pads are gold velour.
Big Boy is heavily weighted with steel punchings in his tum, although a lead weight would have originally been used. He is stuffed with wood wool, polyfibre and mohair scraps (to replicate the waste materials used to save money). Lastly, Big Boy has a secret in his tum - a tilt growler!
Big Boy measures 35cms.
My bears are made from 100% mohair or viscose, with the occasional faux fur and plush thrown in!
They are 5 way cotter pin jointed, and some of my minis are string jointed. They have wired glass eyes, some of which are hand blown antique glass.
My bears etc. are generally around 11cm tall when seated and so are classed as miniature bears, although they can be quite stocky fellows!
The bears are filled with lovely, clean steel punchings
and some polyfibre stuffing.
These are collectors' bears made using materials and traditional components that make them unsuitable as children's toys. Every one arrives with a signed and dated certificate.
