Bernard (inspired by 'Bingie', a 1930's 'Merrythought' Bear)  

Bernard is my largest bear yet, made using the finest German Helmbold mohair in a swirly milk chocolate brown. His paws and ear inners are suede and I have stained them slightly for an aged look. He is created in the traditional style of bears from the period 1914-1944, with large amber and black wired glass eyes, metal and card cotter joints, embroidered features and claws. His nose is sculpted clay, to resemble the noses made from 'gutta percha' a latex from trees which became popular at this time.
Bernard is weighted with steel punchings, although a lead weight would have originally been used. He is stuffed with wood wool and mohair scraps to replicate the waste materials used to save money. Lastly, Bernard has a secret in his tum - a tilt growler!
Bernard weighs a little under 500 gms
and measures 35cms
My bears are made from 100% mohair or viscose, with the occasional faux fur and plush thrown in!
They are 5 way cotter pin jointed, and some of my minis are string jointed. They have wired glass eyes, some of which are hand blown antique glass. 
My bears etc. are generally around 11cm tall when seated and so are classed as miniature bears, although they can be quite stocky fellows!
 The bears are filled with lovely, clean steel punchings 
and some polyfibre stuffing.
 These are collectors' bears made using materials and traditional components that make them unsuitable as children's toys. Every one arrives with a signed and dated certificate and a wooden TBO tag.
